Hillary Clinton wins Indiana. But is her end nigh?
Full coverage of the US election 2008Phew, it was close. But Hillary Clinton did eventually just prevail in Indiana by two per cent or about 22,000 votes out of 1.25 million. So she remains alive. But very possibly on a political life support machine and, as Tim Russert points out here, campaigns often end when other people start pulling out the tubes. Here’s a news story about the dramatic night from me in Indianapolis and my colleague Alex Spillius in Raleigh, North Carolina.
According to Russert, Clinton has cancelled appearances on the morning shows. There are also reports that Hillary has had to give her own campaign another loan. While there was nothing in her speech that indicated she was about to drop out, she’ll be conferring with her advisers, some of whom will have the courage to deliver some hard truths. Here are 10 things she might want to consider as she ponders whether to remain in this race.
1. The last two weeks were the worst of Barack Obama’s campaign. He was hit badly by the re-emergence of Jeremiah Wright and his poll numbers started to go south in Indiana. But he still won big in North Carolina and Indiana was a squeaker.
